thank you for being here, and i hope you'll find these ideas interesting
Modern science has progressed so far that we don’t need to go outside the universe to explain it. We can have a self-contained understanding of how things work here and, crucially, why the universe itself exists. I will use ideas from fundamental physics, specifically from general relativity and quantum mechanics.
Einstein’s theory of general relativity revolutionized our understanding of space and time, suggesting that they are not static, immutable entities but are instaed flexible and dynamic. The theory also posits that space and time can bend, stretch, and even come into existence spontaneously. Importantly, it introduces the concept that the total energy of the universe is zero, allowing for a universe to emerge from nothing without violating conservation of energy laws. This notion challenges classical viewpoints and negates the necessity of a divine creator to iniate the universe.
Quantum mechanics, with its inherent uncertainties and principles like the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, suggests that the vacuum of space is not truly empty but filled with virtual particles that spontaneously appear and disappear. This phenomenon of quantum fluctuations can, under specific conditions, lead to the formation of a small bubble of space that, if it expands rapidly enough, can evolve into a universe through a process similar to the Big Bang. Mathematical proofs, based on solutions to the Wheeler-DeWitt equation which integrates quantum mechanics and general relativity, support the possibility of such spontaneous universe creation. The concept of the quantum potential, akin to the cosmological constant, further explains how such a bubble could undergo exponential expansion. Thus, given enough time, the principles of quantum mechanics allow for the spontaneous emergence of a universe like ours from the fabric of the quantum vacuum. [1]
The synthesis of these ideas forms a compelling narrative for a self-contained, self-explanatory universe. Hawking and others argue that the universe can be fully understood through its own laws and phenomena, without resorting to supernatural explanations. This scientific perspective is grounded in the observation and mathematical description of the universe’s behavior, from the incredibly small scale of quantum mechanics to the vast cosmic scale of general relativity.
This alone means that there is no role for God in understanding the universe. It doesn’t disprove the existence of God; you can believe in God if you want, as long as God doesn’t do anything to the universe. God didn’t create the universe, and it doesn’t influence the universe in any way.
